THE NEUROSCIENCE OF LEADERSHIP

Insights from “neuroscience” are becoming more and more relevant in leadership. Find out more about understanding our brain systems, conscious and unconscious behavior, the brains perception of threat and reward – and knowing how to put it in perspective to leading people.

I hope you will find inspiration in these 6 short videos of different leadership challenges. It’s from a lecture I did about Change Management at UCL Business Academy.

  • Trust and Relations (0:55)

14 areas activate in the brain, when the employee experience trust and good relations to his or her leader. The areas activated shows openness for better teamwork, development and goodwill for change processes.

  • Fight - Flight - Freeze response (0:57)

In the realm of work life, the Fight-Flight-Freeze response of the brain can lead to hasty reactions, impulsive decisions (fight), avoidance of challenges (flight), or getting paralyzed by stress (freeze). Recognizing and managing these responses can foster better problem-solving and resilience in professional settings.

  • Balance The Emotional Regulation System (0:43)

Often in our work life we are in either our threat or reward system – which causes imbalance. We also need to be in our soothing system.

The threat system is the strongest and is activated if we experience danger or fear. In an organization it can be changes, expectations of goals to be met, uncertainty about the future, etc.The reward system is activated when we pursue new goals or developments.

Consider what activities or mindsets we can introduce into the organization - or you can do as a leader - to create a better balance so that we also experience that our soothing system is activated.

  • Leaders influence on The Emotional Regulation System (0:28)

As a leader, this is actually a leadership tool. Why? Because as a leader you influence which system you put your employees in.
  • Leading towards rewards (0:59)

Find out more about how you can put your employees in there reward system. The place where they feel high motivation.
